The New Mutants film keeps getting pushed back on 20th Century Fox’s release calendar. And according to recent rumors, that date could get pushed back again.

The filmwas originally slated for release on April 13 of 2018, which was then pushed back to February 22 of this year. Now, new rumors are swirling that the release date could be pushed back to August.

Scott Bechtel, host of Merc With a Podcast, claimed on Twitter that Fox and director Josh Boone had difficulties agreeing on a final cut of the film, and were looking at a fall release of the film, potentially on Hulu.

While Walt Disney Studio’s bid to acquire the film studio has not been finalized, Fox is operating on a “business as usual” premise with their upcoming films, according to Comic Book. And so, The New Mutants has not officially been pushed back just yet.

The film was previously delayed to reshoot scenes, including the addition of a new character. Producer SimonKinberg explained how reshoots aimed to make the film scarier, and previously confirmed to IGN that the film is on track with reshoots to meet the new release date.

“Audiences really embraced the notion of a superhero movie or a comic book movie that was, in its core, a horror film,” Kinberg said.

“I don’t think it being delayed is a bad thing because it’s definitely more important to make sure that we get it right than rushing to make a date,” star Anna Taylor-Joy told The Playlist. “So, hopefully, all of these reshoots and adding of the new character that will give the fans an altogether satisfactory, wonderful product.”

The New Mutants, currently slated for an August 2 release, stars Anna Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Alice Braga, Charlie Heaton, Happy Anderson, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Colbi Gannett.
