It may have taken five years, but fans finally have a release date for Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson’s Black Adam movie.
Warner Bros. announced the movie (and Johnson’s casting) way back in 2015, but just yesterday the star took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message about playing the character, along with release details for the project. According to the post, Black Adam is set to hit theaters on Dec. 22, 2021.

For those who don’t know, Black Adam is an anti-hero from the DC Universe who exists as Shazam’s greatest nemeses. Some fans expected to see Black Adam appear in this year’s Shazam!, but the film ultimately focused on Billy Batson and his backstory. The movie wasn’t without Black Adam Easter eggs though — remember that previous champion the wizard mentioned, who wasn’t “pure of heart?” Yep, that’s him.
We may have two more years until Johnson officially suits up for the big screen, but at least now we have this beautiful concept art by Jim Lee and Bosslogic to hold us over.
