The toy box has finally opened. The highly anticipated summer flick Toy Story 4 has officially debuted in theaters. Whether you go by fan reaction or box office performance, it’s a success. According to Deadline, the picture raked in an impressive $12 million in first-night sales.
This is the second-best preview night for an animated feature following last year’s Incredibles 2, which earned $18.5 million during its first night. Additionally, last night’s preview sales are estimated to be three times that of Toy Story 3 back in 2010, with its $4 million total.
TS4 opened last night with 5 p.m. fan events and 6 p.m. first showings, with a widespread release today in 4,575 theaters. According to Deadline, this makes the second-widest theatrical release following Avengers: Endgame. With an impressive box office debut, presales, and high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s been speculated that TS4 could top the box office this weekend.
