Walmart

Last year, Walmart made a big splash by debuting its grocery pickup service with an epic commercial featuring an assortment of Hollywood “star cars” from The Justice League Batmobile and the Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine to the Ghostbusters‘ Ecto-1 and even Cinderella’s Carriage. That spot, which debuted during the Golden Globes, seemed like it would’ve been better suited for a debut during the “Big Game” — otherwise known as the Super Bowl to most of the population and to advertisers who pay the NFL for the right to use the name. This year, Walmart is back at it with what is officially the company’s first-ever Big Game spot, and some “famous visitors” are getting in on the grocery pick-up action.

The aliens from Mars Attacks are joined by Frank the Pug from Men in Black, Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy, C-3PO and R2-D2 from Star Wars, the Heptapods from Arrival, a Spinner from Blade Runner, the Enterprise from Star Trek, Wildstyle and the Retro Astronaut from The LEGO Movie, Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, and Marvin the Martian in rolling up for their groceries with curbside delivery provided by some helpful Walmart associates. Sam Jones reprises his role as Flash Gordon while Alex Winter makes an appearance as both young and old Bill S. Preston, Esq., from the Bill & Ted trilogy. The only thing missing is an appearance by Matt from Walmart.

Apparently, these commercials are working: Walmart’s grocery pickup service is said to be booming with double-digit sales growth. Personally, I still prefer to go inside the store so I have an excuse to scope out the must-have merch in the toy department and collectibles section.

P.S. For added fun, pay attention to what these famous visitors have in their bags.
