Wicked Cool Toys Pokemon Detective Pikachu

Wicked Cool Toys has outdone itself with the variety in its Pokémon Detective Pikachu line of plush characters and action figures based on the new live-action movie, which hit theaters last week.

The gang’s all here with the Pokémon Detective Pikachu plush characters, which come in 8-inch stuffed versions of Psyduck, Snubbull, Ludicolo, and Detective Pikachu. They’re brightly colored with velvety soft fur, and they speak when you tap the bottom, saying their names in their funny Pokémon voices. Only Psyduck and Snubbull can sit up on their own due to their wide bottoms. Even though they have battery packs inside, they’re still cuddly and they’re all true-to-character.

The 12-inch Poseable Plush characters are available in Mr. Mime and Mewtwo varieties. Mr. Mine has a stuffed head and torso — the poseable parts are his arms and legs, which are long and skinny. Mewtwo has a stuffed head, torso, and legs, with a poseable tail and arms. The characters can’t stand on their own.

Pikachu is the star of the show, with three different plush versions to choose from: the 8-inch Pikachu Plush, the Pokémon Detective Pikachu Real Scale Plush, and the Pokémon Detective Pikachu Movie Feature Plush.

While the 8-inch one talks, the real scale one is more of a classic plush with no tech involved. It is 16 inches tall and features a detective hat and glass eyes, like the other sizes.

The Pokémon Detective Pikachu Movie Feature Plush has a hard base at the bottom where the battery area is, which makes it sit up straight without falling over, perfect for display purposes. Not only does it talk in an adorable Pikachu voice (expect lots of “pika pikas”), but it also has a voice change feature to make it talk in Ryan Reynolds’ (who voices Detective Pikachu in the movie) voice, too. It’s a little jarring to hear Reynolds’ gruff voice coming out of a furry, little Pikachu stuffed animal, but it’s also amazing. You can switch back and forth between modes simply by pressing Pikachu’s chest, then pressing his hand to hear him say a ton of different phrases. The Reynolds voice gets more sarcastic, saying real sound bites from the movie, such as, “Thank goodness for the hat, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to tell which one of us is the detective.” The plush Pikachu has motorized ears as well, which brings it to life even more.

The Pokémon Detective Pikachu figures are simple yet fun to collect: There’s the Battle Figure Multipack, 2-inch Figures sold in a two pack, and individual 3-inch Figures. The Battle Figure Multipack comes with six figures: two 2-inch Pikachus, a 2-inch Bulbasaur, a 2-inch Psyduck, a 3-inch Ludicolo, and a 3-inch Mewtwo. It’s difficult to make some of the 2-inch figures stand on their own but the 3-inch figures have basic articulation to give them some balance and movement in their arms and legs.

Between Wicked Cool Toys’ Detective Pikachu line and the rest of its Pokémon toys, fans of adorable cartoonish monsters really can catch ‘em all.
