It’s almost 2022 and that means live events are sort of a thing again and fans can get ready now for the 2022 Play! Pokémon Championship Series.
At the events, trainers from around the world will be invited to compete in the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG); the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield video games; the Pokkén Tournament DX video game; and, for the first time, Pokémon Go to prove they’re the very best and for the chance to win millions in prizes.
This is the first championship series since last year’s season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some players will qualify for new age divisions and all players who earned points last year will be able to transfer their points into this season.
In 2019, fans witnessed the inaugural Pokémon Go Invitational. Now that the world is (kind of) getting back on track, the first-ever Pokémon Go Championship Series will commence. Trainers can battle each other throughout next year at regional and international events for a spot at the World Championship.
You’ve gotta catch ‘em all but nobody wants to catch a deadly virus, so new health standards will be in place at these events to keep everyone safe. The Pokémon Co. will follow all appropriate government guidelines and has its own policies, which include requiring masks, players staying a meter apart, and more. A vaccination requirement will also be in place for events with more than 300 people.
