Remember the Alamo (Drafthouse Cinema sale)! Sony Pictures has purchased Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, marking the return of big Hollywood studios to the theater-owning game.
The beloved dine-in movie theater chain will now operate under Sony Pictures Experiences. Variety reports that the chain’s 35 Alamo Drafthouse Cinema locations will still operate under the Alamo brand, and Alamo Drafthouse will still operate Fantastic Fest, its genre film festival. Â
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema was founded as a single theater in 1997 in Austin, Texas, and is now the seventh largest theater chain in the U.S. It’s not a regular movie theater, it’s a cool movie theater, known for its signature cocktails and food menu, as well as its special programming, like this month’s Pride schedule.Â
