Alex Trebek is a national treasure, hosting one of America’s favorite game shows, Jeopardy!, for the past 35 years. Trebek filmed a video clip to announce that he was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer.
In the video, he says, “Just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week I was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. Now normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging. But I’m gonna fight this. And I’m gonna keep working. And with the love and support of my family and friends, and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease.”
Despite the seriousness of the news, his sense of humor and good spirits remain intact as he jokes, “I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease. Truth told, I have to! Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host Jeopardy! for three more years.” Over the summer, Trebek did a sit-down interview with TMZ’s Harvey Levin, in which he revealed he’d likely be leaving his hosting duties when his contract expires in 2020. However, his contract was renewed a few months later through 2022 so we plan on seeing him on our TVs every night.
