Birds of Prey didn’t exactly soar this weekend, despite hitting No. 1 at the box office, according to Box Office Mojo.

The femme-fatale film based on one of DC’s most-iconic characters earned slightly more than $33 million in domestic box office sales for its opening weekend, falling flat of the $45 million Warner Bros. expected. The PG-13-rated Suicide Squad (2016) debuted with $133 million — suggesting that the R-rating is keeping BoP from flying. (Not sorry for all these puns — at all.)

Audiences have mixed reactions, but reviews have overwhelmingly been positive. Birds of Prey has 81% on RottenTomatoes, 60 on Metacritic, and the Pop Insider rated it 90%. There’s still plenty of time for redemption, and if it’s anything like one Harley Quinn, it’s going to be explosive.
