Avengers: Endgame. The Lion King. Frozen 2. These are just three of the films released last year that brought Disney to a whopping record of almost $13.2 billion in global box office sales, according to Deadline.
“We are very proud of our studio’s team and the extraordinary slate of films they delivered to fans all around the world in 2019. This was a year like no other,” says Walt Disney Studios Co-Chairman and Chief Creative Officer Alan Horn and Co-Chairman Alan Bergman.
Many people are wondering if the year can be topped — as Disney might not have a slate quite like this again. Six films produced by Disney surpassed the billion-dollar mark last year: Avengers Endgame, Aladdin, Captain Marvel, Toy Story 4, The Lion King, and Frozen 2. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is on its way with $400 million in sales globally since its late-December release, according to Variety.
The previous record of the highest global gross in a year was also set by Disney in 2016 at $7.6 billion. Disney acquired Fox early last year and, without counting its contributions, the company still grossed more than $11.1 billion.
