Disney continues to dominate the world of film in the new year by leading box office numbers worldwide and having the biggest animated release of all time (again).
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker topped the box office domestically for the third straight weekend, with numbers reaching $450 million and more than $900 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. The film will soon become Disney’s seventh $1 billion-plus global release of last year.
Frozen II, which has become the highest-grossing animated release of all time with numbers reaching $1.325 billion worldwide, finished in fourth this weekend. The film surpassed box office numbers for Frozen ($1.281 million) and Incredibles 2 ($1.243 million), the two previous record-holding films.
Disney domination does not stop at the box office. With the continued success of the new streaming platform Disney+ and its original content creating a constant buzz on social media (looking at you The Mandalorian), it’s safe to say that Disney fans cannot get enough — on screens both big and small.
