Designer Con (DCon) has big plans for November. The annual art and design convention will debut at The Expo at World Market Center in Las Vegas with exclusive art and design programming Nov. 15-17.
Among the programming is a curated Betty Boop collection. Artist and cartoon historian Nina Palomba is overseeing the collection and merchandise. Palomba’s curation is an exclusive collaboration with Rockin Pins, an official licensee of Betty Boop and Fleischer Studios, which debuted the now-icon in a cartoon in 1930. Fans can purchase prints and merchandise exclusive to DCon featuring Betty Boop, Koko the Clown, and other Fleischer Studios characters.
The booth will also have an exclusive Betty Boop art zine from Mixam. Palomba is among the 24 international artists featured in the zine; most of the publication’s artists are women.
“Betty Boop has been a part of my life since I was a kid,” Palomba says. “My sister and I had memorized the Definitive VHS Collection to a point we could fast forward or rewind to the exact moment of our favorite scenes. It is such an honor to bring Betty Boop and her iconic friends to life through my eyes and this collaboration!”
A VIP-exclusive half-pipe exhibition in partnership with X-Large and Mister Cartoon is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 15. The partnership features bikes, streetwear, and merchandise in tribute to BMX culture from the 1990s and 2000s. “I created artwork for X-Large, one of the first streetwear brands in Los Angeles, in the early 1990s, and my friendship with the team spans decades,” Mister Cartoon says.
Flatstock is celebrating with a centennial art show presented by The Poster Institute. The show highlights concert posters and allows fans to meet the artists behind their iconic work. Flatstock 100 features more than 30 artists and studios, including Mike King and Abbas Husain. Fans can purchase rare and exclusive posters from DKNG, Nakatomi, and more. “I can’t think of a better venue to celebrate this incredible milestone,” says Poster Institute President Lil Tuffy.
The Silver Drawing Academy Art Show will also be at the event. The show features the art of Stephen Silver, the lead character designer of TV series Kim Possible and Danny Phantom – and student artists launching their careers. Silver is also the founder of the Academy.
DesignerCon, MEDICOM TOY, and Coca-Cola are honoring Keith Haring’s work with an exclusive BE@RBRICK design. The Keith Haring x Coca-Cola collaboration celebrates the late artist with vibrant colors and stark outlines. The figure will be unveiled and exclusive to the convention.
In addition to exclusive exhibits, DCon will welcome more than 700 vendors, including fan favorites PopMart, Kidrobot, Mondo, Super7, tokidoki, and Creature Bazaar. EQL will help fans acquire their greatest fandom desire as DCon’s official launch partner. It will run fan-first launches on MEDICOM TOY’s DCon-exclusive BE@RBRICKS, How2Work exclusives, and more.
