The final season of Game of Thrones hasn’t exactly been a fan favorite, but that didn’t stop those fans from watching last night’s finale of the wildly successful HBO series in record-breaking numbers.
According to HBO, a whopping 19.3 million people tuned in across various HBO platforms to watch “The Iron Throne.” This broke the all-time record for HBO viewers — a record that GoT actually just set itself last week, with 18.4 million viewers.
Of last night’s 19.3 million viewers, 13.6 million watched the show via HBO’s 9 p.m. cable telecast. This set another record, besting the 13.4 million who watched the season-four premiere of The Sopranos in 2002.
The number of viewers will certainly to continue to grow, as people watch the episode today and in the weeks to come. So far, Game of Thrones‘ final season has averaged 44.2 million viewers per episode — that is a more than 10 million viewer increase per episode when compared to last season.
This morning, HBO bid a final farewell to the series and thanked its fans with this sweet video, featuring the cast, which is definitely worth a watch.

Game of Thrones may be over, but we can at least look forward to Game of Thrones: The Last Watch, a behind-the-scenes documentary about the show that HBO will air on Sunday night.
