Henry Cavill, also known as Superman in the DC Extended Universe (for now), will be playing Geralt of Rivia, the lead character in Netflix’s upcoming series The Witcher.
The Netflix production, which was first announced this May, will be based on the novels and video games of the same name. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (The Defenders) tweeted her thoughts on Cavill, who she claims “Is Geralt.”
“He was my first meeting,” she wrote. “I didn’t have writers or scripts yet – just a greenlight and a lot of passion. That was four months ago, and I’ve never forgotten the passion he brought.”
He was my first meeting. I didn’t have writers or scripts yet – just a greenlight and a lot of passion. That was four months ago, and I’ve never forgotten the passion he brought. He IS Geralt. He always has been. I’m so thrilled to welcome HENRY CAVILL to the #Witcher family.

Geralt, who serves as protagonist in both the books and games, is a monster hunter (aka “Witcher”) who travels the land with a princess and sorceress as his companions.
The limited series, according to earlier tweets from Hissrich, will include eight episodes and premier around 2020.
