Loungewear is living its best life rn and even Elmo is willing to put on some sweatpants — as long as they’re as comfy-cool as the Hype x Sesame Street collection.
Street style gets a whole new vibe down on Sesame Street with the new line of apparel and accessories from UK-based company Hype. The 55-piece capsule collection is full of ‘90s aesthetics, including plaid and camo prints, color-blocking, embroidered sweatsuits, and baggy T-shirts for maximum comfort.
The sweatsuits are the star of the show, featuring neutral backdrops on which the Sesame Street characters take center stage. Some of the designs are more chill, while others are more flashy, so you can choose how much of your fandom you want to put on display. You can play it cool with a single Cookie Monster graphic, get a little bolder with a full parade of characters down your arms and legs, or go buck-wild in head-to-toe sherpa sprinkled with embroidered faces. I have to admit, I felt like a giant toddler in the full sweatsuit, but I was into it.
If you don’t like the look of a full sweatsuit, there’s a large selection of Sesame Street T-shirts in black, white, and grey that you can easily match to any of the sweatpants to complete your work-from-home uniform. The sizing is unisex and it’s meant to be oversized, so size down if you want a tighter fit. I personally prefer my T-shirts long and loose, and these were comfy enough to sleep in, work out in, and curl up on the couch in.
The collection also includes backpacks and face masks to drive home those top-to-bottom Sesame Street looks, or you can wear them on their own. With the exception of the denim style, the backpacks are way more colorful than the clothing options, featuring bright camo-print styles interspersed with character faces (a green Oscar the Grouch option and a red Elmo option) and colorful sherpa designs in yellow, red, or blue with an embroidered Big Bird, Elmo, or Cookie Monster on the front pocket to match. They’re not heavy-duty backpacks, but they’re spacious and can hold a bunch of lightweight essentials. You can expect the sherpa pieces to shed a little bit, so try not to be too rough with them if you want them to last long-term.
Any Tom, Dick, or Harry can slap a Sesame Street logo on a T-shirt or a bag, but the furry textures and playful patterns are what make this collection embody the core of Sesame Street characters. I don’t just want to dress like Cookie Monster: I want to be Cookie Monster. Now I can put on my fuzzy sweatsuit and my blue backpack, tear open a box of Girl Scout cookies, and live my best life.
