Chris Hemsworth

Last night kicked off Avengers week on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) came on the show for a pretty lengthy interview, but that definitely wasn’t the highlight of the evening.

In a separate clip, Kimmel recruited six Avengers — Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Hemsworth, Johansson, Chris Evans (Captain America), Don Cheadle (War Machine), and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) — to read a children’s book titled Twas the Mad Titan Thanos.

The illustrated book tells the story of Avengers: Infinity War via (sometimes questionable) rhyming verse (rhyming Groot and soot is a bit of a stretch, guys).

As the title suggests, the book follows the pattern of Twas the Night Before Christmas. It starts with “Twas the mad titan Thanos who traveled through space, with a big creepy smile on his weird, purple face. …” Another notable line was, “Then Thanos tore through them like discount piñatas.”

While the book itself is pretty funny and should definitely be available at retail ASAP, the Avengers’ reactions while reading really make the video great. Most of the Avengers mentioned how much Thanos’ chin resembles a certain part of the male anatomy, but the best comments came from Hemsworth, who clearly has strong opinions about that scene when Star Lord interrupts a nearly successful attempt to take the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos.

“[Star Lord] got all emotional about his girlfriend or some sh*t, and then blew the whole thing up,” he says. “I mean, they had him. They had him. But anyway, glad you got your relationship sorted. Half the universe is dead!”

These Avengers will return (likely for the final time) for Avengers: Endgame, in theaters on April 26.
