Mark your calendars and get ready to dive into the world of the Planeswalkers from Magic: The Gathering, because this year’s MagicCon tour kicks off next month.
This year, Wizards of the Coast is taking its fantasy tabletop trading card game — which also lives as a digital game, novel, and comic book series — around the world at festival events called MagicCon. These events continue the ongoing celebration of the game’s 30th anniversary, which started with ReedPop’s Magic 30 event last October.
The MagicCon tour kicks off with a stop at the Philadelphia Convention Center in Philadelphia from Feb. 17-19, followed by a stop in Minneapolis from May 5-7. Then the tour goes international, heading to Barcelona from July 28-30. MagicCon will make its final stop for the Magic World Championship XXIX in Las Vegas from Sept. 22-24.
All of these weekend events will offer a variety of immersive experiences, including cosplay contests, panels, parties, access to special guests and artists, and more. MagicCon is the perfect opportunity for Magic: The Gathering fans to discuss collecting, deckbuilding, and everything they love about this mythical game.
Those attending MagicCon in Philadelphia will receive a special treat: an exclusive first look at the upcoming March of the Machine, a story climax more than 10 years in the making. Some panel topics at the Philadelphia stop include the language of Phrexyan, exclusive reveals of Secret Lair releases, and a competitive game show. Guests include Jimmy Wong, host of the Magic: The Gathering Commander podcast; artist Marta Nael; and cosplay star Tarla Vess.
