From figures and games to exclusive prints and events, Marvel has been celebrating its 80th anniversary all year long. However, the comic book company has set one specific day, Aug. 31, as its official birthday.
On Aug. 31, 1939, Marvel Comics No. 1 first debuted, introducing the world to a universe of superheroes who would change pop culture forever. Eight decades later, Marvel has plenty in the works to celebrate this special day, starting with a commemorative piece of art by comic book artist Adam Kubert (shown above).
There will be festivities throughout Marvel’s birthday week, including celebration events at comic book shops and retailers, such as the Disney store, Amazon, Box Lunch, and FYE. These events will include new and exclusive merchandise, special offers, giveaways, and more. Participating comic shops will have a new, free edition of the Marvel Universe Magazine available, featuring exclusive art and behind-the-scenes content for some of Marvel’s fall comic releases.
To top it off, that week marks the release of Marvel Comics No. 1000, an oversized, special-edition comic book to commemorate the anniversary.
Stay tuned for more details about these Marvel-ous birthday celebrations!
