New 'Mean Girls' Merch Serves All Generations of Fans

Celebrate the original film's upcoming 20th anniversary and the new movie-musical with merch that's totally fetch.

Get in loser, we’re going shopping — for new Mean Girls-inspired apparel, pet products, and tasty treats.

Mean Girls merchandise has been steadily entering mainstream retail stores and websites — unlike fetch, because that’s not going to happen — since the original movie’s release in 2004. As the film's 20th anniversary creeps up, Mean Girls fans get to celebrate with merch collabs from their favorite brands and a new movie to watch during girl’s night.

Mean Girls has earned its place in pop culture since the original film’s release in 2004, with those iconic quotes, memorable moments, and now, even its own celebrated ‘holiday’ (Mean Girls Day on October 3)," says Lourdes Arocho, senior vice president of Paramount Pictures Licensing and Global Publishing. "All of those attributes make Mean Girls a great merchandisable property for a wide range of categories — from apparel and food and beverage to stationery and even luxury products — there’s something for every fan to love.”

The movie-musical, also titled Mean Girls, released in theaters on Jan. 12 and showcases the iconic high schoolers we all know and love (well, in the same way that Regina loved her classmate's skirt).

Featuring Reneé Rapp as Regina George – who played the queen bee in the Mean Girls Broadway show – and Angourie Rice as Cady Heron, the new take on a beloved script is capturing the attention of seasoned fans and a new generation of Reginas, Cadys, Janices, Damians, and Aaron Samuels.

Over the past 20 years, and as the new movie-musical plays in theaters worldwide, new and established Mean Girls fans have a chance to experience Cady vs. The Plastics again, but with updated, modern storytelling.

Moriah Dycus, a content creator known as Moriahlovespurses on TikTok and Instagram, has a large collection of Mean Girls merchandise that she showcases through creative, colorful outfits. She first saw Mean Girls near its release around age 11, and now gets to bring her Mean Girls-themed fits to the theater.

“When Mean Girls came out the first time, it was trendsetting and it was what was cool … seeing the outfits and the whole aesthetic, pink and girly … the classic iconography, the whole aesthetic of ‘the cool girl,’ it was such a fun movie, there’s so many quotable moments,” Dycus says.

“Now, my 10-year-old niece is really into Mean Girls, so I have this idea that we’re going to see it together and experience it together and I’ll relive it like I was 11 again,” she continues. With the new movie-musical, families and friends can feel the same way (and maybe even wear the same things) when leaving the theater.

Moriah incorporates her favorite fandoms into outfits that North Shore students would love, like when she created a Regina George-inspired ensemble that gained favorable attention from other Mean Girls fans — new and old. Moriah's collection includes a lot of hot pink, glitter, gems, and quotes from the movie.

Luckily, for influencers and fans looking to feature their fandom in everyday life, the new film and anniversary of the original Teenage Royalty proves that when it comes to new, innovative merchandise for a script as iconic as this, the limit does not exist.

Arocho says “2024 is the year of Mean Girls, and of course we’re kicking things off with the new movie-musical in January, followed by a year-long celebration of the 20th anniversary of the original film. We have exciting new partnerships across multiple categories including apparel, accessories, collectibles, food, and health and beauty!”

Grool New Clothes and Accessories

Whether you’re still rocking the original film’s Y2K fashion or you’re more into the new film’s updated closet, American Eagle recently released a collection to fit both aesthetics.

The collection includes cropped and oversized graphic T-shirts, denim mini skirts, and iconic pieces such as a pink oversized zip-up hoodie reading “On Wednesdays We Wear Pink” and a white tank with “Fetch” written in pink font.

The collection, which also features denim totes and jackets, runs between $17.95-$79.95 at ae.com

Like Regina’s mom, Mean Girls apparel will always live in the glory days. You can find shirts, sweats, jackets, and hats with recognizable quotes from the movie year-round at shops like Target, Hot Topic, and Box Lunch. According to Dycus, “Loungefly, HerUniverse at Hot Topic, and BoxLunch are big fandom places.” You’re likely to find Plastics-approved merch through these brands.

Merch, But Make It Musical

Paramount’s collection, available for fans on paramountshop.com, includes more movie-musical-specific merch. Other than the product name, you can tell that it’s from the 2024 film by looking for the little musical note in the “a” of “Mean.” Most of the products include the Mean Girls logo with the musical denotation for you to wear as you belt “World Burn” in the car — or cafeteria.

Fans will find a hoodie that showcases the musical version of the logo for $39.95, a “Plastic is forever” T-shirt for $30.95, and more North Shore Lions gear, mugs, pins, and more.

The Paramount Shop assortment will continue to grow, as Arocho says, “Mean Girls is a staple — an important and timeless franchise, so we will continue to have new collections for our Mean Girls fans, and you can always count on us for something pink to wear on Wednesdays.”

Mean Girls is an experience, whether you’re watching cuddled up on the couch, or from the mezzanine of the August Wilson Theatre.

For movie theater-goers, AMC launched several Mean Girls items to celebrate the new movie-musical. Two products — the Burn Book 54-ounce Popcorn Tin ($19.99) and pink 24-ounce Diamond Double Wall Cup ($22.99) — are both AMC exclusives, and fans can find them in theaters or online. But even if you can’t get out to an AMC, the online collection is chock-full of other pink goodies, like a $24.99 Burn Book Reversible Fleece Blanket, a “You Can’t Sit with US” 17-ounce Water Bottle ($22.99), and more at amctheatresmoviemerchandise.com. If you’re looking to showcase your allegiance to the most popular girls in school, the oversized pullovers that say “Plastics” ($34.99) will do the job.

In honor of the 20th anniversary and launch of the new film, Bark is re-releasing its Burn Book dog chew toy, which gained popularity as fast as the Plastics did when it was first released as a limited-edition item last Mean Girls Day, selling out in eight hours.

The plush Burn Book toy has crinkles, squeakers, and opens for your dog to see exactly which canine chased the coach's car and who has a “pugly snout.” You and your dog can also discover which puppy pal is “too drooly to function” and which dog “made out with a hot dog” while playing with the toy.

“I love the Burn book because it feels like it's … just the movie,” says Dycus. “You see that and you immediately think of Mean Girls, that’s the iconic thing.”

New and current BarkBox subscribers will see the toy online in March and receive the hot pink, dog-sized book in their April box. Later in April, the toy will be available to purchase on Bark.co for both subscribers and Actual Human Beings.

“We designed our version of the Burn Book from a dog’s perspective," says Bark’s Vice President of Brand Marketing Dave Stangle. "We’re re-releasing the toy to give dog parents another opportunity to get their hands (and paws, and jaws) on it.”

You Can Sit with Us

With January’s movie-musical debut and the upcoming 20th anniversary of the original film in April, Mean Girls fans are in for yummy treats that will beat anything served in the North Shore cafeteria. Fans can get the jolt they need to take on the hallowed halls of high school with Coffee mate’s Mean Girls-themed pink coffee creamer, which has a sweet frosting flavor and retails for less than $5 at grocery stores nationwide.

But there is no culinary Mean Girls adventure quite like the one Bucket Listers created for fans in Los Angeles and New York City: The Mean Girls Experience.

Now through April, fans can purchase tickets to the Mean Girls-themed dining experience, which includes an entree and side item, a 90-minute table reservation, a candy cane gram, and access to the Mean Girls-inspired photo opportunities and designated areas.

The menu features items like the Burn Book Burger, Stab Caesar Salad, Jambo! Mac and Cheese, and more. During the experience, fans can also walk the North Shore High halls, visit the Cool Mom Bar, take a pose on the Winter Talent Show stage, join the Mathletes, visit the Museum of Mean Girls, and purchase exclusive Mean Girls Experience Merchandise.

Tickets start at $39 and can range depending on the number of guests in your party. You can find dates and availability on bucketlisters.com

In addition to the merch and branded experiences fans can currently enjoy, they can also rest assured that more merchandise is on the way, and it will be as grool as ever. To fit the fandom perfectly, Arocho says, “we want to ensure we are bringing something together that enhances both brands, and surprises and delights our fans … we are always looking for partners that understand the tone of the brand and stay true to that, while thinking outside the box creatively for the categories and looks of products we create.”

Fans can continue to look for Mean Girls collabs, experiences, and items as the anniversary continues (and for at least 20 years after that). With its now multi-generational appeal, Mean Girls merch will reign for years to come.
