Netflix has hit its stride with long-form content. In their Q3 earnings report, the streaming service revealed on Tuesday that more than 80 million subscribers globally watched one of its “Summer of Love” romantic comedies over the past several months.
The streaming platform singled out To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before as one of its “most viewed original films ever with strong repeat viewing.” Ahem, here’s looking at you, Peter Kavinsky.
Netflix released a series of original movies this summer under the tagline, “Summer of Love.” Such films include Set it Up, The Kissing Booth, Like Father, Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, and TATBILB. As the success of these rom-coms have shown, the people want more love stories to indulge in, and so the streaming service also revealed that they are in production of “the next set of original rom-coms” for its subscribers.
While Netflix does not reveal the actual viewing metrics for individual titles, they did reveal another measure for a film’s popularity: Instagram data of the stars’ accounts. TATBILB costars Lana Condor and Noah Centineo both saw their follower counts increase: Condor’s from 0.1 million to 5.5 million and Centineo’s from 0.8 million to 13.4 million. This was the case of other teen stars from other projects, such as Joey King and Jacob Elordi from The Kissing Booth, who saw their follower counts jump to 8.3 million and 6.4 million, respectively.
In their earnings report, Netflix revealed better than expected results, surprising Wall Street with the addition of approximately 7 million paying subscribers and $4 billion in revenue.
