By the end of Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, fans squealed at Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky’s final kiss and were left wanting more when John Ambrose from Model U.N. showed up at her doorstep, love letter in hand.
While we’ve been anxiously awaiting any potential announcement if Netflix would bring back the popular film for a follow-up, it seems a sequel is coming.
According to a new report in The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has signed a new multi-picture deal with Paramount Pictures, and the studio will produce new films specifically for the streaming platform. TATBILB was made by Awesomeness (which was acquired by Paramount’s parent company Viacom last August) and sold to Netflix, and according to the report, the sequel is one of the first films the platform and Paramount are discussing in this new deal.
A sequel always seemed likely, considering Jenny Han’s YA book that inspired the film is the first in a trilogy of novels that continue Lara Jean’s story.
While we don’t know much about a sequel, based on the second book, P.S. I Still Love You, the story starts with the “video tape” release, which we’ve already seen in the first movie. The book continues when John Ambrose McClaren receives one of Lara Jean’s love letters and writes her back, prompting the two Model U.N. friends to reunite.
And what would a TATBILB sequel be without Lara Jean Song Covey and the Internet’s New Boyfriend Peter Kavinsky? Stars Lana Condor and Noah Centineo have been outspoken about wanting to return to the relationship of the Peter and Lara Jean, should there be a sequel.
While all we know now is that the sequel is a priority for the studio and streaming platform, no doubt the next movie will continue the adorable rom-com story we’ve already binged, and err, binged again.
