This Pokémon GO and Walmart collaboration is blasting off Team-Rocket-style this October!
Niantic’s hit mobile game Pokémon Go and Walmart are teaming up this holiday season to create the perfect gift for every Pokémon trainer on your list. Starting Oct. 20, players can purchase physical Pokémon Go gift cards at Walmart stores and at walmart.com. In addition to the gift cards, Walmart Supercenters will also open more PokéStops and Gyms to give fans more chances to catch their favorite pocket monster.
The in-game Pokémon Go store trades valuable items such as Lucky Eggs and Raid Passes for PokéCoins. Previously, the only way to earn PokéCoins was to compete in the game or purchase them directly in the app. The new Pokémon Go gift cards cut players a deal to give them more PokéCoins for their buck. There are four options available: $10 (1,250 PokéCoins), $25 (3,300 PokéCoins), $50 (7,000 PokéCoins), and $100 (15,000 PokéCoins). The unbeatable value makes these gift cards the perfect last-minute stocking stuffer.
The Pokémon Go mobile game is a fantasy game that encourages players to find adventure in the world around them. More PokéStops and Gyms mean more opportunities for players to get outside and explore their communities. According to Niantic, 90% of Americans live about 10 miles from a Walmart, so the expansion of PokéStops and Gyms in Walmart stores brings the excitement of Pokémon to everyone’s backyards. Nothing brings together a community like catching a Mew in the freezer aisle or battling your opposing team in the check-out lane!
The Pokémon Go gift cards will be available in Walmart stores and online on Oct. 20. Shopping in-store? Starting the same day, players can catch ‘em all with new PokéStops and Gyms in Walmarts across the U.S.
