The television studio behind classics like The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers is no more — at least not by name. Disney changed the name of 20th Century Fox Television to simply 20th Television.
One possibility is rebrand may just be that it’s a celebration of how many TVs Bob Chapek has in one room of his mansion. The more likely reasoning is that after Disney acquired many of Fox assets last year in a $71 billion deal, it’s now trying to erase the name so consumers don’t associate it with Fox Corporation — the company behind Fox Entertainment, Fox Sports, and Fox News that has nothing to do with Disney.
Earlier this year, Disney dropped Fox from film studios 20th Century Fox and Fox Searchlight Pictures, changing their names to 20th Century Studios and Searchlight pictures instead.
The excluded words are now erased from the iconic title card; it remains otherwise unchanged. Episodes that aired before the rebrand will keep the original title card but starting this fall it will be featured before each 20th Television series.
More studios under the Disney umbrella are also facing a rebrand. ABC Studios and ABC Signature Studios will now be ABC Signature and Fox 21 Television Studios is becoming Touchstone Television.
