Jake Gyllenhaal may finally make his debut in a Spider-Man movie. He’s going dark and mysterious—Mysterio, to be precise. Gyllenhaal, who looks mildly similar to Toby Maguire, almost replaced the original actor as Spider-Man when Maguire hurt his back before filming Spider-Man 2. Gyllenhaal is prepping his villainous side for the greatly anticipated sequel to Spiderman: Homecoming, set to release on July 5, 2019.
Mysterio joined Marvel’s hefty list of villains in the Spider-Man comics in 1964. He’s the type of guy who blames everyone else for his failed ventures, of which he has a lot, including acting and special effects work for a Hollywood studio. With the sound logic that most villains possess, it’s obviously all the superhero’s fault and Mysterio is hell-bent on making Spider-Man pay for making his acting suck. Typical. He probably also shames women for not dating him because he’s “a nice guy.”
Nothing official has been announced, but at least Mysterio has a glow orb thing that covers his head so no one will think he’s Spider-Man.
