From Neopia to New York Comic Con (NYCC), Faerie Queen Fyora is spreading the word about some exciting, new ventures from Neopets.
A good chunk of the Y2K generation probably remembers spending hours on the Neopets website, customizing and battling pets, playing games to earn Neopoints, collecting daily omelets, and embarking on Faerie Quests. The Neopets team brought some of that nostalgic magic to NYCC to show that Neopia is still up and running — and there is plenty of new magic coming to the brand.
Neopets debuted some goodies at the con, including Geekify’s Neopets Tarot Card Deck (featured in our Holiday Gift Guide) for $49.95, Geekify’s Negg Squishes for $14.99 (read all about them here), and Neopets pins and jewelry from What’s Your Passion Jewelry. The new Faerie-inspired jewelry includes Jhudora’s Wand Pendant for $135, Fyora’s Crown Ring for $120, Fyora’s Staff Earrings for $135, and Illusen’s Bow Pendant for $165. There are also collectible pins and holiday ornaments available here for $11.99-22.99.
Neopets: The Official Cookbook will launch next year with more than 40 recipes straight from Neopia, including Checkerboard Pizza, Negg Lasagna, Iced Fish Cakes, and more. The cookbook will ship in June, but you can preorder it now for $24.99.
Neopets: Faerie’s Hope is a new mobile game featuring more than 500 levels of puzzles and customizable Neopets characters with different skills. Players can befriend Neopets characters, renovate character buildings, and help the lost Light Faerie find their way.
Fans can also explore Neopia in a whole new way with the Neopets metaverse, a free-to-play game that will offer opportunities to earn cryptocurrency. “The metaverse is a new frontier for us,” Carlin West, CEO and Founder of Carlin West Agency, tells The Pop Insider. “You’ll be able to interact with the Neopets characters in the same way that you do in the game, only now you’re in a world online that’s different from anything we’ve done before.”
The metaverse already kicked off with Neopets NFTs on the blockchain and the launch of the first mini-game, “Turmac Roll” — which players will recognize from the regular Neopets website. The metaverse is currently in Alpha launch, with plans for potential public token offerings, an Alpha 2 launch with added game features, a public Beta with tokenomics in place and other added game features, and more next year.
Neopets is also nearing its 25th anniversary (the website first launched in 1999), so what keeps the fans coming back for more? “It’s a world that you can be safe in and it’s a world that you can build a community in,” West says. “People have made friendships here. They’ve met and gotten married through Neopets. It’s really a community-based property, so you get to share a lot of the characters and the species, as well as make friends.”
