A California artist has filed a lawsuit against Disney, Pixar, and Onward producer Kori Rae for allegedly stealing her “vanicorn” idea for the upcoming film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Sweet Cecily Daniher states in the complaint that Pixar had read about her 1972 Chevrolet G10 with a unicorn painted on the side in an article from the San Fransisco Reporter. They reached out to her to attend what they called a Pixar family event in 2018. Daniher believes it was there that they stole her idea.

Last year, when she learned of the production of Onward, Daniher posted a side-by-side photo with her Vanicorn and the one from the film. “WOW! Sooo, do y’all think Pixar Disney stole the Vanicorn for their movie #onward ????” she writes.
Just this past week, she officially filed a complaint for copyright infringement. Her lawyers said in the complaint that Disney has taken her lifelong love of unicorns and art and turned it into a “commercial and corporate” item in a mass-marketed Disney film. It was done “under wickedly misleading pretenses,” they state.
Onward follows the story of two young elf brothers who are able to go on one last adventure with their dead father. It’s scheduled to be released on March 6, but stay tuned to find out if it gets delayed or even disappears entirely depending on the outcome of the lawsuit.
