Oscar Isaac, the actor who played Poe Dameron in Last Jedi and J.J. Abram’s The Force Awakens, has been a busy man—it’s no walk in the park filming the legendary Star Wars films. Or is it?

In an interview with Indie Wire, Isaac spoke about what it’s like filming Episode IX, where improv is encouraged. “The way they’ve been shooting it right now is looser than it’s been for the last two times,” Isaac says. “It does feel like a relief to get on set and feel like, ‘Oh, we can try things.’ It’s a testament to J.J. coming back and feeling confident. There’s less pressure for it to be right. We just want to make a good movie and have a really good time while doing it.”

Isaac also shared his thoughts on backlash for the previous installment, saying, “Luckily, since I’m not directing it, producing it, or distributing it, I don’t have to worry so much about fan expectations. Also, not all fans have the same expectations.”

Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Kelly Marie Tran, and Keri Russel are along for the ride as Isaac’s co-stars. While the film does not yet have an official title, it will hit theaters on December 20, 2019.
