It seems all that glitters is gold for the film industry, as early this morning, the Academy announced the nominees for the coveted Oscar trophies.
Black-ish star Tracee Ellis Ross and The Big Sick’s Kumail Nanjiani were on hand to announce the nominations for the 91st Oscars race.
The awards will air on Sunday, Feb. 24 on ABC, with news still to come on whether or not there will be a host.
Following a big campaign push from Marvel, the blockbuster hit Black Panther received seven nods, including being the first superhero film honored in the Best Picture category. Continuing the super-powered nominations, Avengers: Infinity War received a nom for its visual effects, and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse received a nom for Best Animated Feature. Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma marks the first time the streaming platform Netflix has a film nominated for Best Picture, as the film ended with a total of 10 nominations.
