Playmobil may technically be a toy brand, but its latest offerings appeal to kids and collectors alike.
The company has launched a variety of licenced sets over the past few years, including the Ghostbusters ECTO-1 and firehouse, the iconic Delorean from Back to the Future (complete with Einstein the dog), and a variety of Scooby-Doo inspired sets. Now, three more classic pop culture brands are getting the Playmobil treatment: Star Trek, the A-Team, and James Bond.
For Star Trek, Playmobil has gone all-out for a U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 Playset. It comes with a $499.99 price tag, but it certainly earns it. The set measures 42 inches long and 18 inches wide; features lights and sounds that fans can control with a smart device; and comes with figures of Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, Scotty, Uhura, Sulu, and Chekov. The set is specifically inspired by The Original Series and one section opens to reveal a 1966-style bridge play environment. The body of the ship also opens on the side to reveal the engineering room. Fans can display this massive set on the included stand, or hang it from the ceiling.
The Star Trek set is available to preorder now from Entertainment Earth, with an expected ship date in September. The product listing originally popped up earlier this month, but now includes images showcasing the massive set.
Yesterday, product listings appeared on Entertainment Earth for a Playmobil A-Team Van and Figure Set and a James Bond Aston Martin DB-5 Goldfinger Edition Car. Right now, neither of these product listings have official images, but the descriptions make it clear that these sets will continue Playmobil’s knack for nostalgic pop culture.
The Aston Martin comes with figures of James Bond, Auric Goldfinger, Oddjob, and a henchman. Of course, it’s also packed with Q’s upgrades, including a revolving number plate, tire slashers, and an ejector seat. The A-Team Van comes with Faceman, Murdock, B.A. Baracus, and Hannibal figures and features show-accurate details, such as a red stripe, a vintage California license plate, and red wheels.
Both of these sets are available to preorder now from Entertainment Earth for $89.99 each. Both sets are scheduled to ship in November.
