Grab your proton blasters, everyone, because June is a big month for Ghostbusters!
It marks 35 years since Ghostbusters first graced the silver screen and 30 years since its sequel, Ghostbusters II, debuted. To celebrate, Playmobil expands its licensed Ghostbusters collection with an Ecto-1A replica and new collectible figures.
Once assembled, the Ecto-1A looks like it rolled straight off the screen. Assembling the car takes just under an hour — though the main body comes mostly together already, collectors can really recreate the Ghostbusters’ revamped car from the second movie with stickers and other detailed parts, down to the satellite dish on top and the “We’re back for hire, Ghostbusters” signs on the roof.
The upgraded Ecto also features light and sound effects, the new Ghostbusters logo (with the ghost holding up two fingers), and a pink slime splat in homage to the major slime threat the team faces during the movie.
The set, which retails for $59.99, also includes figures of all four Ghostbusters, along with their paranormal weapons. The Ecto’s top is removable, too, revealing enough seats inside for the whole team, as well as slots to store their proton packs and other gear. There is even a hologram pyramid included with the set that, when used with a companion app, can project ghost effects.
While the figures included with the Ecto-1A fit perfectly inside the car, Playmobil’s collector’s size Ghostbuster figures will need a bit more room. The collectible figures are an impressive 6 inches tall — enlarged versions of the standard Playmobil figs.
Zeddemore, Stantz, Spengler, and Venkman are each sold separately ($49.99 each), and they each come with ghost-busting accessories. Despite their larger size, the figures’ arms, legs, and heads can move just like the smaller figures. The packaging is decorated with plenty of Ghostbusters-themed design elements, has a window in the front that provides a good look at the figure, and a includes a true-to-size image of the figure and its accessories on the back.
While these figures obviously aren’t lifelike renditions of the four stars, the distinct Playmobil look combined with the character-specific accessories make for a unique and fun collectible for Ghostbusters fans. Because they are limited edition, these figures are restricted to 12,500 pieces per character and are numbered with a holographic sticker on the front. (So be sure to get these in your cart ASAP!)
As an added bonus, the figures also come with a code to unlock content in the Ghostbusters World mobile game.
