Scotch & Soda Popeye

Amsterdam-based clothing retailer Scotch & Soda is teaming up with King Features to celebrate Popeye’s 90th anniversary with a new — and villainous — clothing collection.

Popeye‘s nemesis, Bluto, a.k.a. Brutus in Amsterdam, will get all the glory in this nautical-themed, limited-edition capsule collection called The Boathouse

The line for men, women, and children will include souvenir and Varsity-inspired jackets, denim, Hawaiian shirts, shorts, overalls, sweats, and hoodies decked out with illustrations of Bluto/Brutus and nautical cartoon scribbles. The colors will take you back to the original cartoon and summers at the shore with monochrome colors as well as black and white washes with pops of lifeguard red.

Sailors can complete their looks with several accessories, including hats, caps, bags, belts, scarves, phone cases, and laptop sleeves.

Scotch & Soda Popeye Bluto Collection

“Scotch & Soda has a proven record in bringing innovative products to market, and when they had the original idea to create a nautical collection around Brutus, we knew it would be a hit with fans,” Carla Silva, vice president, global manager, and global head of licensing at King Features, said in a statement. “Their impassioned commitment to developing a unique and authentic vintage look for Brutus was inspiring and is apparent in every design.”

“We found this brilliant, vintage Brutus garment on our travels and couldn’t resist the magnetism of this muscly character. Brutus has this powerful, larger-than-life personality. He’s Popeye’s arch enemy and always up to something,” Marlou van Engelen, creative director at Scotch & Soda, said in a statement. “His character decorates and inspires the designs of our workwear-heavy capsule. He’s our Boathouse mascot.”

Scotch & Soda is the latest brand to launch an anniversary collection commemorating the iconic sailor man. Other brands repping their love for Popeye and Friends include streetwear brand HUF and Popeye’s Barbershop and Shave Company, a special anniversary line of men’s grooming products featuring Popeye and Bluto.
