We’re sad but not surprised. For the first time in its 50-year history, Comic-Con International: San Diego is canceled.

SDCC will return to the San Diego Convention Center from July 22-25, 2021. The cancelations are due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and recent statements by the Governor of California, which have deemed it unsafe for large gatherings to take place.

In addition, the next WonderCon, which would have taken place this year from April 10-12, will happen from March 26-28, 2021. A major renovation of Balboa Park’s Federal Building has also been delayed, which is the home to the Comic-Con Museum, set for a grand opening next summer. The Museum’s initially planned renovations will be revisited, but it is still expected to open on time.

If you already have a badge:

If you have already purchased a badge for 2020, you will have the option of requesting a refund or transferring your badge to next year’s con. All 2020 badge holders will receive an email within the next week with instructions on how to request a refund.

“Extraordinary times require extraordinary measures and while we are saddened to take this action, we know it is the right decision,” said David Glanzer, spokesperson for SDCC. “We eagerly look forward to the time when we can all meet again and share in the community we all love and enjoy.”
