Put away the smartphone and turn that hat sideways — the ’90s are back at LEGO’s “Brickbuster Video” experience at Comic Con International: San Diego (SDCC).
The Brickbuster LEGO experience rebuilds the world of video rental store Blockbuster brick-by-brick. The unmistakable blue-and-yellow signage at booth No. 2829 showcases fan-favorite LEGO buildables, interactive games and kiosks, and of course, plenty of photo ops all within a “LEGO-fied” Blockbuster store. More than 50 building sets are on display — including new LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog and new LEGO DreamZzz sets.
Two fan-favorite characters from Sonic the Hedgehog were revealed in BrickHeadz style: the blue blur himself and Tails. The LEGO BrickHeadz Sonic the Hedgehog comes in 139 pieces and the LEGO BrickHeadz Miles “Tails” Prower comes in 131 pieces. Both products ($9.99 each) are for kids ages 10 and up and come with a baseplate for display. The 3-inch BrickHeadz figures will be available Sept. 1.
Fans and nostalgics alike can get hands-on and help build and customize the “New Releases” wall of the storefront, and convention-wide, LEGO is hosting a retro scavenger hunt wherein guests of SDCC can find clamshell VHS cases and redeem prizes at the Brickbuster “brickdrop.”
As if that weren’t enough to entice legions of LEGO fans, there will also be surprise giveaways, building opportunities, and a Q&A session with LEGO Design Manager and Master Builder Pete Donner.
The clock is ticking on this LEGO time-machine: the Brickbuster Video experience will be open during regular hours until SDCC ends July 23.
