Two weeks after the iconic comic book legend passed away, Stan Lee’s cause of death has been revealed.

According to CBRLee died on Monday, November 12 at 9:17 a.m. at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, due to heart and respiratory failure. He was 95. Lee was cremated and his ashes were returned to his daughter, Joan Celia Lee.

The godfather of Marvel comics, Lee also suffered from “aspiration pneumonia,” a complication of pulmonary aspiration, which was a “significant condition” that ultimately contributed to his passing.

During his time in the industry, Stan Lee created dozens of characters, including Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, Black Panther, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch and Ant-Man.

He will be missed, but his contributions will never be forgotten.
