avenge the fallen

Yesterday, the actors from the MCU blew up Twitter and Instagram with a well-coordinated poster reveal in honor of Avengers: Endgame premiering in exactly one month.

The posters are noteworthy because they also include characters who were killed during Infinity War. The surviving Avengers’ posters are in color, while dead characters are shown in black and white. All of the posters have the phrase “Avenge the fallen” across the middle, and it didn’t take long for the internet to begin copying the design to create their own funny (and tragic) posters.

Some incorporated MCU characters who died at the hands of Thanos but didn’t receive posters, including S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill, Heimdall, Hank Pym, and Janet van Dyne.

This user edited the posters together, pairing live and dusted characters who have especially strong connections. (Be warned: These will hurt your heart.)

On a lighter note, this fan made posters for Terrence Howard and Edward Norton, who both left their roles in the MCU after one movie.

Fans were also quick to notice that Goose, an MCU newcomer and fan-favorite flerkin from Captain Marvel, didn’t receive a poster. So, of course, fans made them for her. Some optimistically used a color photo, while others depicted her in black and white.

Another heartbreaking poster making the rounds features the late Stan Lee, who may make his final MCU cameo in Endgame.

However, things didn’t stay within Marvel properties. Fans used the poster motif to pay tribute to characters from a variety of fandoms, including Disney, The Umbrella Academy, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and even The Office.
