The Sorcerer Supreme may be back sooner than we think.
Doctor Strange 2 will begin filming next spring, according to a rumor first published by the Mirror. This could mean that the sequel could be the untitled Phase Four film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) suggested to start production next June.
The potential project also might take the place of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 production schedule, which was set to start filming with James Gunn’s original script in February for a 2020 theatrical release. Considering Marvel isn’t rehiring Gunn for the film, and has yet to find a new director, it’s likely that we’ll see more of Doctor Strange before then.
Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson posted a photo on Instagram about a month ago that teases the possibility that a sequel is in the works or that pre-production will begin next month. “‘Not my will, but thine be done…’ See you in September,” the post reads.

The rumor also suggests that Benedict Cumberbatch and Marvel Studios are renegotiating his contract for the second standalone Stephen Strange film, where the actor would reportedly make $5 million more than he did for his prior appearances in the MCU, including Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War.
While speculation is still underway, we know we’ll see more of Cumberbatch in Avengers 4.
