American Horror Story: Apocalypse Episode 3 “Forbidden Fruit”

We begin with a montage of scenes where Michael Langdon (Cody Fern) is interviewing everyone at Outpost 3, revealing their most inner thoughts and desires. This is how we learn about Mallory’s (Billie Lourd) pyro-kinetic powers and get a glimpse of who Michael Langdon really is when he presses Mallory about her identity, and she replies “I don’t know but I’ve always felt that there is someone dead inside me trying to claw their way out.”
And that’s just the beginning of all the surprises this episode had in store for us.
Remember Coco’s boyfriend, Brock (Billy Eichner), who she ditched in LA when he couldn’t make it to the private escape jet in time? Well, somehow he managed to survive the nuclear blast and has been searching for her ever since. His perfect hairline is now badly receding and he’s walking around with tumors on his head all Mad Max style. I have to admit, I severely underestimated the guy. His character seemed so insignificant in the first episode, I just assumed that was the last of him. Now he’s a bonafide renegade on a mission! It just goes to show that you can never underestimate the special powers a nuclear fallout can bring.
Miraculously, the same black horse-drawn carriage Michael arrived in rides by right after Brock asks if anyone has heard of the fallout shelter for rich people. He pulls a move right out of Indiana Jones‘ book and hitches a ride underneath the carriage.
When the carriage arrives back at Outpost 3, Meade and Veneble discover a case with red delicious apples in it, which sparks their imaginations to hatch a diabolical mass murder plot. Veneble appropriately decides to carry it out at the masquerade ball on Halloween, where she makes everyone wait to eat their delicious red apples—assumed to have been sent from the Operative—at the same time.
The plan works flawlessly, and the Purples meet their fate after eating the apples and violently puking to death.

During the party, Coco sneaks off with a man in a Grimm-Reaper-like cloak, whom she thinks is Michael to her room to perform a sexual act she “never even did for her boyfriend.” Only to find out the mysterious man under the hood was in fact, Brock. If you thought Brock was searching all of that time to have a heartfelt reunion with his long lost love, you would be sadly mistaken. Radioactive Brock is pissed, and Coco doesn’t seem so thrilled to see him covered in tumors and burns. Brock cuts right to the chase about his intentions, he pulls out a knife and stabs Coco right through the brain just as if she were a zombie.
Now I’m impressed. Post-apocalyptic Brock is full of gusto, and I’ve got a feeling he’s going to shake things up going forward. Especially since none of the other characters have a clue that he’s infiltrated their little layer.
Michael, who chose not to attend Venable’s masquerade, is last on Venable’s kill list. However, this part of her plan doesn’t work out in her favor. We find out that Meade has been on Michael’s side this whole time and she shoots Venable instead of Michael. I was kind of hoping that at least one or two of the Purples would survive the apple fiasco, especially because I was expecting Michael to toy with the Purples for much longer, pitting them in plots against each other until they killed each other off.
Michael’s real point of contention is with the witches from Coven, whom he had set out to destroy.
The episode ends with Cordillia Good (Sarah Paulson), Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts), and Myrtle Snow (Frances Conroy) entering Outpost 3 and reviving three of their sisters back to life…
…and the witches are back!

It’s not clear yet what the history between them is, but the apocalypse has summoned the supernatural forces out from hiding and I’m eager to find out how these worlds collide. Also, I’m ready for a new setting. The candles and corridors at Outpost 3 are cool and all, but I’d like to see more Mad Max type battles with a dash of magic in the middle of the radioactive tundra.
