In a recent interview with the AP, Guardians of the Galaxy actor Chris Pratt, of course, was asked about Disney’s recent firing of franchise director James Gunn after offensive tweets resurfaced and then the potential chance Gunn could be rehired for the third movie.
“It’s not an easy time. We all love James and he’s a good friend of ours, but we also really love playing the Guardians of the Galaxy,” Pratt told the AP. “It’s a complicated situation for everybody. And you know, we just want to move forward and do what’s right and be the best people we can be.”
Pratt revealed how shocking it was to hear the news about Gunn, especially considering how close the film cast and crew were.
“I was a little shocked like everybody and it was crazy timing with Comic Con,” Pratt continued. “I love going to Comic-Con, but I ended up not doing a lot of interviews around that time because it was so shocking.”
Pratt signed an open letter 10 days after Gunn was fired from the film, in which the Guardians cast, including Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, and the other film stars, aimed to show their support for the direct and the character Gunn showed on set during the first two films of the franchise.
“We put a lot of time and thought and effort into the statement that we released about it,” Pratt added. “I think we all kind of want that statement to be essentially what we have to say about it and we were pretty clear and honest with how we feel.”

While the cast remains solidly in Gunn’s corner, word is still out on what Disney will do next to replace the director.
