Contrary to its name, Dark Horse Comics is no dark horse in the pop culture sphere. The company has become well known for its comics and collectibles based on popular properties such as Dune and Star Wars. Now, with New York Comic Con (NYCC) looming on the horizon, Dark Horse has unveiled its complete list of panels and programming so that fans can get an up-close look at what the company has to offer.

The company will be involved in five panels throughout the event:

  • ICv2: The Future of Direct Market: Where Do We Go From Here? – Oct. 12, 4:45 p.m., River Pavilion: This session will bring together a panel of industry thought leaders, led by Eisner-nominated ICv2 writer Rob Salkowitz, to mark the 50th anniversary of the direct market with a look ahead to its future. Creators, publishers, and retailers will discuss ways to update the concept of the comic book store while keeping the elements that have made the direct market so resilient over the past 50 years. This panel is open to industry professionals with Artist Alley, Professional, Panelist, Exhibitor, and Press badge types only.
  • Dark Horse Horror Hour – Oct. 14, 12 p.m., Room 406.3: Gather to commune about horror comics with fellow horror hounds. Panelists will discuss comics that are sure to keep readers up at night, such as Count Crowley, Where Monsters Lie, and The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos.
  • Water, Earth, Fire, Air: Continuing the Avatar Legacy – Oct. 14, 3 p.m., Room 406.1: Abrams Books, Dark Horse Comics, Nickelodeon, and Magpie Games are treating fans to a panel worthy of the Avatar. The creators and writers of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra will explore the beloved world.
  • World of Iyanu: The Ascension of African Fantasy in Comics and Animation – Oct. 15, 1 p.m., Room 408: Roye Okupe’s YouNeek Studios creates comics inspired by African history, mythology, and culture. Now, the studio’s hit young adult graphic novel series Iyanu: Child of Wonder is being adapted into an animated series from Cartoon Network, Max, and Lion Forge Animation. Hear more about creating these new worlds in comics and animation.
  • Lucasfilm Publishing: Stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away – Oct. 15, 1:30 p.m., Room 1B02: From the days of the glorious High Republic to the time of the First Order, join some of Lucasfilm Publishing’s authors as they discuss stories from throughout the entire Star Wars saga. This panel includes reveals, announcements, special guests, and sneak peeks.

Dark Horse does not have a booth at NYCC this year, but the publisher will certainly still have a presence at the show!
