Flappy Bird will fly again! The one-tap game will hatch on iOS and Android in 2025 and is also expected to launch on web browsers. The Flappy Bird Foundation Group purchased the popular game from Gametech 10 years after creator Dong Nguyen removed it from the App Store and Google Play. Nguyen cited the game’s addictive nature; he is not involved with The Flappy Bird Foundation Group.
In a press release, the Flappy Bird Foundation identified itself as a team of “passionate fans committed to sharing the game with the world.” It also acquired the right to Piou Piou vs. Cactus, the mobile game that inspired Flappy Bird.
Nguyen released Flappy Bird in 2013. Players guided Faby, a small yellow bird, through columns of green pipes. Points were awarded for successfully navigating the pipes; if Faby missed, the game ended. Flappy Bird had 50 million downloads before its removal.
New characters have joined the brood, including Trixy, a love interest; Peng, a penguin; Tekno, a robot bird; and Quirky, who sports a unicorn horn. Players will be able to send the birds through different obstacles. The new Flappy Bird will offer a variety of game modes, including “EZ” and rivals, wherein they challenge up to 99 opponents online.
