After the first piece of major news regarding HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel broke the other day, more information was just revealed—this time courtesy of George R.R. Martin himself.

In a post announcing Watts on his very own website, Martin wrote:

“Casting is now underway for THE LONG NIGHT, the first of the GAME OF THRONES successor series to ordered to film.”

Just a couple of months ago, Martin shared his affection for the same title despite no official announcement. It now seems as though The Long Night will, at the very least, be the working title.

The Long Night is in reference to the the time before the events of Game of Thrones. It takes place thousands of years prior to the timeline of the original series, and focuses on the First Men and Bran the Builder’s efforts to build a wall that would keep the White Walkers out of Westeros.

Martin continued his post with the following:

“Jane Goldman scripted the LONG NIGHT pilot and will be running the show. She and her team are busy in London right now, neck deep in casting, and I expect some more names will be announced soon.

Meanwhile, there are still a couple of other possible prequels in active development. I can’t tell you the subject matter of those projects, no, sorry, wish I could. The readers among you might want to grab a copy of FIRE & BLOOD when it is released on November 20, though.”

Despite not giving much more insight into The Long Night prequel, HBO is continuing to round out its cast with the addition of Josh Whitehouse. Whitehouse recently starred in the BBC series Poldark, and will also appear in a remake of Valley Girl, which is currently in development.
