Following fan campaigns, complaints from the Guardians cast, and a planned jump to the world of DC, James Gunn is reportedly back on board to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
In case you missed it, Gunn was fired from the franchise back in July after journalists uncovered some of Gunn’s old tweets, which contained problematic jokes about pedophilia and rape.
However, according to an exclusive report from Deadline, Walt Disney Studios president Alan Horn met with Gunn on multiple occasions and ultimately decided to rehire him. Apparently, despite reports to the contrary, Marvel never met with any other directors about taking over the franchise.
Deadline reports that Marvel has agreed to start production on Guardians 3 after Gunn completes Suicide Squad 2. Gunn had already finished a scrip for the next Guardians film before being fired, but information about the movie has been under wraps (except for the fact that it made multiple people cry).
As soon as news broke, Marvel fans started reacting on Twitter — sharing overwhelmingly positive responses to the news.

There is no official release date for the movie at this point — especially considering Gunn’s prior Suicide Squad commitment and the fact that most of the Guardians turned to ash at the end of Infinity War — but it’s exciting to know the movie is finally moving forward.
