From Doctor Who to The Crown, Matt Smith is joining another mega franchise.
Smith was cast in Star Wars: Episode IX, which is just about a month into production, according to Variety. The report says he will play a “key” role, but it’s unclear what exact part he will portray in a galaxy far, far away.
Smith joins newcomers Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, and Keri Russell in Star Wars: Episode IX, along with returning cast members Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd. Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams are also reprising their roles, and Carrie Fisher will be featured with previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
