Should the 20-sided die be rolled in their favor, Paramount Pictures and eOne will soon have a massive hit on their hands.

According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley — the creative duo behind Game Night and Vacation and the screenplay for Spider-Man: Homecoming— have penned a new script for Dungeons & Dragons from which they will also direct.

Plans for a film based on the popular roleplaying game from Hasbro’s Wizards of the Coast have been swirling for years, but this latest attempt looks to be on the fast track with Chris Pine (Wonder Woman 1984, Star Trek) close to a deal for a leading role. THR says that Hasbro’s eOne division is jointly producing and financing the film alongside Paramount, where Hasbro’s AllSpark Pictures has maintained a footprint for many years.

While no details on the plot have been revealed, Dungeons & Dragons is being planned for a 2022 theatrical release.

As reported on our sister publication, the Toy Book, Goldstein and Daley were previously attached to planned films based on other Hasbro properties, including M.A.S.K.: Mobile Armored Strike Kommand and Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light.

In 2015, Hasbro and Paramount established a writer’s room with plans for a shared cinematic universe that would’ve paired those films with others inspired by G.I. Joe, Transformers, ROM, and Micronauts. Plans for those interconnected films never came to fruition, and Hasbro and its partners went on to develop additional titles for the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises.
