If you see some DC fans calling for a “Snyder cut” of Justice League, it’s because the movie we all saw wasn’t quite what its original director had planned.
Earlier this month, a Justice League story boarder revealed that some major plot points—most notably the ending of the movie—were changed when Zack Snyder left his role as director and Joss Whedon stepped in for reshoots.
This week, Snyder himself revealed some more details about what that original ending had in store. A user on the social media platform Vero asked Snyder about a shot included in the Justice League Blu-ray extras. Snyder commented on the still, writing, “It’s from the end looking into a boom tube.”
There are boom tubes (DC slang from a extra-dimensional point-to-point Einstein-Rosen bridge opened by a Mother Box) used in the movie, but none resulting in a shot that matches the one in the bonus features scene.
This aligns with reports that Snyder’s original ending would have fully introduced Darkseid, the ruler of Apokolips and Steppenwolf’s master. This also would have set the story up for a sequel, which fits with Snyder’s original plan to make Justice League part of a larger arc of films.
