New controller, who dis?

Sony wants to give gamers a feeling that its controller is just an extension of themselves while playing their favorite games, and it’s doing that with its upcoming controller for the PlayStation 5 (PS5).

The DualSense wireless controller is designed to give players a new immersive experience, giving a new feel and look compared to the DualShock 4 that was introduced with the PS4 in 2013.

The most obvious, first impression difference from the DualShock 4 is the colors. The base controllers traditionally had a single color, but the DualSense has a two-toned design, and the lightbar curves around the touchpad instead of sitting on top of the controller. It will also have a built-in microphone for players to easily chat with their friends for a quick conversation.

Sony added haptic feedback to the DualSense, which will give players an extra sense of touch during gameplay, like feeling the slow grittiness of driving a car through mud. Adaptive triggers were also incorporated to the L2 and R2 buttons, so players will feel the tension of their actions, such as drawing a bow to shoot an arrow. To add these features without making the hardware any bulkier, the designers changed the angle of the hand triggers and made subtle updates to the grip.

The “Share” button from the DualShock 4 will be replaced with a “Create” button feature for players to share their epic gameplay content. There will be more information on the feature closer to the launch date.

As for battery life? Sony promises a strong rechargeable battery with a lighter weight to the controller overall given all of the updates.
