On April 1, Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC) tweeted that they are hopeful to host the con as scheduled from July 23-26.
To our amazing Comic-Con and WonderCon fans: We understand how difficult the current climate has been for all of us and appreciate your continued support through these trying times. No one is as hopeful as we are that we will be able to celebrate #SDCC2020 together come July. 1/2

But fans are not optimistic, and many replied to the tweet imploring organizers to cancel or postpone the convention.
Marvel Studios showed test footage of this scene at #SDCC in 2014 and it immediately proved that #AntMan could be a really cool movie. #QuarantineWatchParty pic.twitter.com/YU9hjvhz9q

This is one of the most irresponsible business moves I’ve seen yet. SD Comic Con must be cancelled. I contracted swine flu there in 2009, regretably developed symptoms only on plane home & was hospitalized. The fact I may have infected others still haunts me. They MUST cancel.

Many fans are hoping for ticket rollovers into 2021, since badges are tough to secure, even if you’ve attended in year’s past.
@Comic_Con @SD_Comic_Con if #SDCC gets cancelled I think it would only be fair to carry over the badge for #sdcc2021 I mean #SDCC2020 never happened. I successfully got a badge and couldn’t go then have to try again next year and possibly not get it

But with many Americans out of work and in need of fast cash, some are just looking for ticket refunds.
Or give fans the choice of a refund or rollover. Some folks may need that money now more than they need the badges next year.

Content creators also weighed in. Some had blunt reactions to SDCC’s tweet, while others cited the extreme public health problems the con would create.
No. Just no. Please don’t. Seriously. No. I beg of you. No.

Oh guys. No. No no no. Cancel it now. Send everyone a 2021 badge. You can do this.

And with so many major films postponed until 2021, it’s not even clear what panels and activations would even be able to take place at SDCC.
What would you even show? Movies are all delayed off till 2021 & Comic books stopped shipping today.

SDCC’s tweet promised to make updates to fans via social media, so keep your eyes on Twitter for more information on whether or not the con will go on.
