AMC is launching ANOTHER Walking Dead series, making it the third show in the franchise despite falling ratings. The new show is co-created by Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer and former showrunner, along with flagship writer Matt Negrete, who will also serve as showrunner.
The current season of TWD hit a slump with new ratings lows multiple times this year, including the midseason finale and season finale, but the franchise is still marching on, with spinoffs Fear the Walking Dead and three TV movies starring Andrew Lincoln in the works.
It’s unclear whether any characters from TWD or Fear the Walking Dead will make appearances on the new show, which will begin with a 10-episode order. The still-untitled show will feature two young, female protagonists, and production will begin in Virginia next year.
