Detective Pikachu is invading movie theaters this Friday, but first, he’s invading Pokémon GO.
When players open the popular AR game tomorrow after 1 p.m. GT, they’ll notice some new content in celebration of the live-action movie, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu.
The new content will run for a limited time, from tomorrow, May 7, through May 17. The Detective Pikachu easter eggs include:
- Detective Hat Pikachu Photobomb: While using the GO Snapshot feature, fans may get photobombed by a Pikachu wearing a detective hat. Then, they’ll be able to catch the Pokémon;
- More Encounters with Pokémon from the Movie: Pokémon featured in Detective Pikachu— such as Bulbasaur, Jigglypuff, Psyduck, Aipom, Snubbull, and more — will appear more frequently in the game. Players may also have opportunities to catch Shiny Aipom;
- Special Raid Battles and Field Research: Players can participate in Raid Battles that challenge Pokémon with starring roles in the film, as well as movie-inspired Field Research; and
- New Avatar Items: Fans can deck out their in-game avatars with movie-themed items, including a detective hat with Pikachu ears and a T-shirt featuring the “Pokémong Detective Pikachu” logo.
Pokémon released a video to promote the in-game features, which gives fans a first look at the avatar items and more.
