Is your Spidey sense tingling? It should be because Sony Pictures dropped some big news today: A sequel to the popular animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is set to debut in theaters on April 8, 2022.
The studio previously stated its intentions to expand the Spider-Verse movie franchise, but this is the most official, specific sequel news to date. The announcement came via a tweet from the official Spider-Man: Into the Spider-VerseTwitter account, with a GIF that shows “2022” in the glitching animation style from the first movie.

Producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are set to return for the sequel. The first Spider-Verse film grossed more than $375 million worldwide and took home the Academy Award for best animated film.
